Adidas Climawarm

One of the commercials I got to work on is finally out: Adidas Climawarm...starring David Beckham. The spot featured 3 locations. The challenge being that we had to mirror the beginning of each shot at the end of the shots. For the first spot I just provided some snow patches and lights for the background building. The second spot was entirely done as a projected matte painting and the last spot was a mixture of projecting different plates and blending them in Nuke with our compositors doing the final touches.

Airbase Runway

I’m currently taking an environment modeling class…just for fun and we’re getting into final project mode. I chose a concept by Jesse Van Dijk (see above) as my base design. I made a few changes…predominantly changed the aspect ratio and added a foreground element.

San Francisco

I’m in San Francisco!!! I was offered a great opportunity at ILM which I’m very excited about. I’m hoping to learn lots of new things and make some great new connections and friends…but all of that doesn’t start til Monday so today is Saturday and I went and explored the city a little bit. Pillar Study – Maps

This week we had to pull displacement and normal maps from our ZBrush sculpt, do a remesh and bring everything into Maya for a render test. My low res mesh could be lower and a bit cleaner but for this assignment and the amount of time it took me it’s fine.

Pillar Study

Second homework for my environment modeling class was to design and model/sculpt a pillar. I had a lot of things going on this week so admittedly this was more of a speed sculpt than anything else but I’m still happy with the overall shapes and feel of it.

I had a little down time today so I figured I go through my photoshop brush library and do a little clean up and organizing aaand somehow before I knew it I was doodling and painting and I just continued until I ended up with this little sketch.

Art Nouveau inspired Street Lamp-WIP

 I’m taking Gnomon’s online Environment Modeling and Sculpting class for fun right now and this here is a wip of our first week’s assignment. We were supposed to design and model a lamp. I went for an art nouveau inspired look for my street lamp. It needs a few more tweaks but it’s almost there.

DEM Study-Antarctica

a little terrain study I did today using a DEM map. I converted the map into a displacement map,textured it, added a bump map on top of that for more detail and that’s it.

more studies

I had so much fun playing in ZBrush yesterday that I decided to do a little more today so here’s a rock and another tree study I did. Sculpting was done in ZBrush. Texturing for the rocks was done using tileable diffuse, spec and normal maps I created using nDo2, a really awesome Photoshop plugin and then lighting and rendering was done using VRay and Maya again. For the tree I used xNormal to pull a normal map from my sculpt and applied that in Maya, together with a spec map and a tileable diffuse map.

I haven’t had much need or time for sculpting lately so I thought it would be fun to do a little ZBrush action today.
Here’s the result….sculpting was done using ZBrush, texturing was done using Mudbox and lighting/rendering was done using VRay and Maya.
